The Siding Goes Up

Thursday, 29 October 2009 13:48

bJ_finishPictured right is the crew that came over from Ben and Jerry's yesterday to start puttingbj_09 up the siding.  We are using a cementitious, pre-painted siding that looks like New England clapboards.  Besides the style being appropriate to the Cape design, these clapboards have the added advantage that there will be no nailing showing, as the boards are stiff enough to only require nailing at the top.  Working from the ground up, all nails are hidden.

David Luce

David_LuceThe foreman and general clerk of the works for this house and the one to whom the David_Luce_2credit goes for the speed and smoothness of the project is David Luce.  David is familiar to many around town as in his retirement he is involved in more community actvities than I can keep track of.  David loves buildings and building design and knows his construction theory quite well.  On top of that, he's a wonderful people person and has been able to help even the most inexperienced of us feel useful on the job.  Thank you David!

Windows and Doors

Thursday, 22 October 2009 00:00

ibm07Thanks to a crew from IBM's Facility Management Team, windows were quickly and IBM_09deftly installed the Pella Windows for the house. The day was dreary and rain threatened off and on all day, but after a few hours of work in the morning, all of the windows were installed and caulked.  The doors were next.  And after lunch the crew trimmed out all of the newly installed doors and windows.  It was a productive day!

Green Mountain Coffee Roasters put on the roof

Thursday, 15 October 2009 00:00
A crew of hardy Green Mountain Coffee Roasters employees began work today while the temperature was in the thirties in a bid to get the roofing material in place.  This is one of the last big steps to get the houGMCR1se "zipped" up for the winter.  We hope to have the windows, doors and siding in place next week.  Thank you so much GMCR for helping us get the roof finished!  With snow already dusting the hill tops and frost silvering the ground each morning, that feels good.

Sunday, 11 October 2009 00:00
wallsA crew of 11 volunteers from the Waterbury Congregational Church, UCC gathered on Saturday morning bright and early to build interior walls and the set of stairs going to the second floor.  Marty and Susan Brooks worked fastidiously on the stairs and they are perfectly installed and aligned.  Other volunteers included: Mave and Kyle Gasaway, John and Charles and Harriet Grenier, Ned Davis,  and David MacGowan.  Thanks everyone!
