You've reached a general description of the purpose of our boards.  You may click on a submenu to go to specific information, including meeting times, members and minutes.

Boards, according to our bylaws (they used to be Departments) "coordinate the activities of members of the congregation in relation to the church" and their particular area of ministry.  The purpse of the board is not to do all the work, but to assist others to carry on the ministries about which they have passions.  This naturally means that over time, the nature of our boards will change with the changing passions of the members and needs of the congregation.

There are two distinctions within the board structure that are key to understanding how we operate.  1)  Regular Ministry Committees function to carry out a ministry of a particular board.  They are not staffed by the members of the board, but by members of the Church for whom that ministry is something they are interested in carrying out.  Members of Regular Ministry Committees are not elected and do not have terms.  A good example of a functioning Regular Ministry Committee are the four people who have agreed to serve as communion servers.  These four are under the coordinating activity of the Board of Deacons.  2)  Standing Ministry Committees will be those committees that must always be staffed and voted upon, yet carry out their activities in much the same way as a Regular Ministry Committee, that is with oversight by a board.  Again, these Standing Ministry Committees will consist of members whose particular skill and interest suit them for these specialized committees.  Currently our Financial officers function in this fashion and have been operating this way for over 4 years.
